The most useful thing you can send is a wrong number with enough detail to reproduce it: the canonical URL, the data date printed on the page, and the bedroom type the figure belongs to.

We read everything. Expect a reply within a few working days; a data correction that needs tracing back to source records may take longer, and we will say so rather than going quiet.

Reporting a wrong figure

This is the enquiry we most want to receive, and the one easiest to get stuck on. To trace a figure we need to know exactly which figure you mean, on which page, on which edition of the data.

Include all four of the following and we can usually reproduce the number the same day.

  • The canonical URL of the page — the full address, not a screenshot
  • The "data to" date printed on that page, which pins the edition you saw
  • The specific figure and its bedroom type — a 2-bedroom median is a different number from the building median
  • What you believe the correct value is, and the record it comes from

Data, licensing and republication

Every building record is published as JSON at a stable address, and the whole site is available as Markdown to anything that asks for it. For most republication you need nothing from us beyond attribution, and attribution here means a working link back to the record you quoted — every page and every record ships that link prebuilt. See the terms for what it requires.

If you need a bulk extract, a slice the site does not publish, or an arrangement beyond the terms, write and say what you are building. We would rather understand the use than discover it in our logs.

Press and citation

Journalists and analysts are welcome to quote the index. The preferred citation format is printed on every record page and reproduced below; using it means a reader can find the exact figure you quoted, at the exact edition you quoted it from.

If a quoted figure will carry weight in a piece, write first and we will confirm the number, its sample size and its caveats before publication.

What we cannot help with

The index is a statistical reference, and some requests fall outside what it can honestly answer. Saying so up front saves everyone a round trip.

  • We do not sell, list, let or value property, and we cannot introduce you to an agent
  • We do not hold listings — what is currently for sale in a building is not in the source data
  • We cannot value a specific unit; a median across a building is not an appraisal of one apartment in it
  • We do not give investment, mortgage, tax or legal advice, and we are not licensed to
